X-wing Announcements – Week of 10/23

Good afternoon X-wing players!

It’s another beautiful October week and if you’re tired of raking leaves, why not come down to Mayhem Comics tonight for our Open Play, starting at 5pm? We’ll have excellent players, good gaming, and some of the best dice rolling you’ll see this side of I-35.

Of course, that’s not all we have going on this week, as our very first Poc-T 2017 will be taking place this Sunday at Arkham Games up in Ankeny. This local charity tournament goes to support Paul Olson and his family and is guaranteed to be a rocking good time. Check out the details of the event at the Facebook event link below:

We’ve got some amazing raffle items collected for this event already (including an Epic Ship, a game board, and some highly skilled custom mod/painting!) and will be posting pictures as more come in. So this Sunday if you’re free and want to help support a family in need, come on down to Arkham Games, bring some cash, and get ready for some excellent X-wing play!

in other news, if you haven’t checked it out yet, Fantasy Flight Games also posted a preview of the Imperial Gunboat or “Alpha Star Expansion Pack”. You can find the article below:

We’ll also let you know when the biweekly Ames Mayhem event is occurring, as well as any further details on the Regional schedule for 2018. There’s a lot of questions still out there concerning  and as we figure them out, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Otherwise, as always, good luck and fly casual!

Paul Olson Charity Tournament 2017

Hello X-wing players!

We’d like to invite you to a very special event to raise money for a friend and fellow player. Paul Olson and his family have been working through some challenging health issues and while they are on the road to wellness, it’s taken a toll on their funds. To support a fellow X-winger in need, we’ve decided to put on the first Paul Olson Charity Tournament (henceforth known as Poc-T 2017).

The Olsons
All proceeds from this event will go towards the Olsons. The entry fee for the event is at-will; please donate whatever you feel you can. Of course, the entry is just the beginning and we’re working to get a pretty impressive prize pool for the main draw – Hangar Bay and The Raffle 😊

The Game – Hangar Bay

We’ll running a Hangar Bay tournament, popularized by the System Open Series. Rules of the event follow the Fantasy Flight guidelines below:

To play in a Hangar Bay side event, you should bring two standard squads that follow the 100-point maximum. These squads will use the same damage deck and obstacles. We will also be using the Distinct Rule, which states that each of your squads cannot use any of the same ship models, pilot cards, upgrade cards, or unique names as your other squad.

Hangar Bay tournament rounds each begin by placing your first squad on your left, and your second squad on your right. After revealing your chosen damage deck and obstacles and evaluating your opponent’s squads, both of you will secretly select which squad to field for this round by using a maneuver dial. Rotate to a 1-speed maneuver to select your first squad on your left, or a 2-speed maneuver to select your second squad on your right, and then place your maneuver dial facedown. Next, each player reveals their dial simultaneously, and removes their unselected squad from the table.

Registration starts at 12pm, with dials down at 1pm. We’ll be running the event in pods of 4 over 3 rounds, with winners occurring within each pod. Rounds will last for the standard 1 hour 15 minutes. At the end of each round, we will hold the Raffle.

The Raffle

All prizes will be won not through victory on the field but through victory in the most sacred of fundraising traditions – the Raffle. There will be 3 large prizes raffled off one by one at the end of each round, along with smaller prizes raffled based on donations. The smaller prizes will include alt art cards, acrylics, and other goodies provided by fellow X-wingers.

To enter the Raffle, players will buy tickets at two levels:
Standard Prize – $1 per ticket
Large Prize – $5 per ticket

Tickets can be purchased up to the time of the drawing – all items up for Raffle will be shown prior with a short window for players to purchase any last-minute tickets. Prizes will be posted on this event page as they are collected.

As a bonus, each player who donates at least $10 upon entry will receive 3 Large Prize tickets for the raffle.

Check out the event on Facebook (link below) and be sure to share this event with your friends.

We’ll be collecting raffle and cash donations up to the day of the event. The more people attend, the more we can help a friend in need 🙂

Good luck and as always, fly casual!

X-wing Announcements – Week of 10/2

Good afternoon X-wing players!

October is here and you know what that means? Spooky X-wing is upon us all! And if you don’t know what that means for the game, it means funky formats, alternative rule sets, and potentially, a fun off-the-wall tournament are all on the table.

Stay tuned to your X-wing website and social media for more details!

Otherwise, we’ve got another week of quality X-wing play, as well as a few interlopers from the mysterious “Space-Ball Nebula” going on this week. While our Monday nights are reserved for X-wing, the mysterious 3-man teams will be dropping in to play a few games in our midst.

If you’re annoyed, intrigued, or even interested, feel free to ask Kyle Doerhoff what that’s all about.

Of course if you have other events or formats you’d like to try, October is a great month to do so. Just post your idea to the Facebook page and we’ll see what we can do.

As always, good luck and fly casual!
