League Announcements – Week of 8/1

Good afternoon X-wing players!

August has arrived and with it an exciting new preview for the Shadowcaster. If you haven’t already, check it out on FFG’s website. It’s got all kinds of interesting goodies to show off and is really the first expansion to allow for dynamic changes to the battlefield’s layout.

Fun stuff!

Of course, if you have already seen it and are itching to get ships on the table, then you’re in luck! Tonight at Mayhem Comics, we’ll be getting together for our weekly league nights. Come on down to bash ships together, play around with combos (like those new Imp Vets) and prepare for the coming of Wave 9.

And in case you haven’t hadn’t a chance to check it out yet, we’ve got our weekly tournaments every Sunday at Jay’s CD and Hobby. Watch the Facebook page for updates on times and details. The shop has tons of cool stuff to give away so get on down there this Sunday to win yourself some cool prizes, hang out with fun players and play some quality X-wing.

Good afternoon X-wing players!

After a one week hiatus, it’s time to get back down to Mayhem for some excellent X-wing play! In case you missed it, Imperial Veterans released and has been tearing up the scene, along with a new FAQ.

There’s a lot to review in the document (including a brand new timing window) so if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out!

While we’re still doing our Monday night get together, this Friday we also are working with the West Des Moines Barnes and Noble as part of their “Get Cultured” event. Starting at 7pm, people will be stopping by to experience the glory of Star Wars in Des Moines, and your Des Moines Area X-wing crew will be there running demo games for anyone interested!

Good morning X-wing Players!

In case you missed the news, this week is the launch of Imperial Veterans! While the models won’t arrive until Thursday at the earliest, you can come on down to Mayhem Comics tonight to test out all of your list ideas.

Whether it’s beefy Glaives with stellar action economy, double-tapping Ion Defenders, or even just long range bombers with infinite Crackshot, Mayhem is the place to be for some of the best X-wing play in town.

As a separate note, since next Monday is a national holiday, we’re not sure if the shop will be open. If not, we hope you enjoy the day off and maybe get in a burger or two 🙂

I AM Your Father Tournament

Good morning X-wing players!

Come join us this Saturday 6/18 for our “I AM Your Father” Tournament, held at Mayhem Comics in Clive. We’ll be running a Team Deathmatch and plan to start at 2pm with registration opening at 1pm. The rules for Team Deathmatch are as follows:

Each player brings two 50 point lists with no overlap in unique pilots (both lists cannot contain any of the same unique pilots). Lists will be labeled “A” and “B”.

Players will be randomly teamed up with one other player. Once your team is set, you’ll play together for the duration of the tournament. Your team will split any prizes as you see fit.

Before each round, teams will decide their squad for the round by pairing up one of their two 50 point lists (A and A, or A and B, etc.) The teams and their opponents will then reveal their lists to each other during setup. The only restriction is that no final list may contain the same unique pilots or unique upgrades. The final list may share debris/asteroids.

Teams will pool their obstacles and provide all six as options for the asteroid pool.

The game will then play per the normal rules of a 100 point tournament (6 asteroids on the field, 75 minute rounds) with each player controlling their half of the list and deciding movements/attacks together.

Cost for the tournament is $10 a person and will have some fun prize support. We’ll decide the number of rounds once we get the total number of players participating. Let us know by heading to the Facebook event and hit “Going”.

League Announcements – Week of 6/6

Good afternoon X-wing Players!

June is in full swing and your Des Moines Area X-wing crew is excited to jump into the fray! We’ve got an Aces pack incoming, news about Wave 9 and some tantalizing details about the Heroes of the Resistance. It’s an exciting time to be an X-wing fanatic 🙂

Join us tonight at Mayhem Comics for our weekly gaming session – we’ll have all the usual suspect down for some excellent X-wing play and hope to see you there!

We’d also like to remind everyone about the weekly tournaments taking place at Jay’s CD and Hobby off SE 14th. It’s a great opportunity to wet your feet in the tournament scene and practice your best list against some friendly local competition. We’ll post reminders to the Facebook group before the event.
