Iowa City Epic Tournament – Sunday 8/23 at Geek City in Coralville

Hello X-wing Players!

In celebration of the release of the Imperial Raider, our friends at Geek City in Coralville, IA are putting on an epic tournament. The tournament will follow standard Fantasy Flight Games rules for Epic play, with the following exception – each player must bring at least 3 Epic Points worth of ships. As a friendly reminder, the Raider and the CR-90 are each worth 3 Epic points, while the GR-75 is worth 2 Epic points. This is to ensure each list will have at least one epic ship in play 🙂

Registration for the tournament will open at 11am, with an entry fee of $5. As a “thank you” for participating, Geek City will be giving 100% of the entry fees back to the players in the form of store credit, so the more people who can make it, the more prizes we’ll have to win!

If you need a reminder of how Epic Tournaments differ from regular tournaments, check out all the details on the X-wing Main Page, under the “Support” header. The tournament should an absolute blast and we look forward to seeing you there.

For those who won’t want to make the drive alone, we’ll be discussing carpools at league night over the next two weeks. You can follow us on this page, in-store, or at our Facebook Page.

Good luck and Fly Casual!

New Ship Announcements!

Man, you’re out for a few days and Fantasy Flight just goes ahead and drops a whole boatload of goodies on you! Looks like we got our first look at Wave 8 as well as the second epic imperial ship, the Gozanti or “Imperial Assault Carrier”.

Both releases look just insane, with our first dip into the Rebels TV series, as well as some very deep dives into Star Wars Legends. While the G-1A is an….interesting design, the Jumpmaster 5000 looks simply fantastic.

Of course, the real excitement is the second epic ship and a commitment to the “deploy” mechanic introduced in Wave 7. 100 point games will likely see minor adjustments to ships entering late, but in Epic format getting your fleet in the right position is so key that this will likely be a big game-changer.

As we find out more, we’ll keep you posted and we’d love to hear your thoughts either here or at our Facebook page.

Good hunting and fly casual!

New FAQ – Becoming an Ace

It looks like FFG dropped another FAQ on us last week. While we haven’t had a chance to dig into it fully, the biggest change has already been highlighted – Tactician is now considered “Limited” meaning you can only run one version of this card on any given ship.

As more details are found, we’ll post updates below:

-Tactician is now “Limited”

-Ships can no longer boost or barrel roll off the edge and get destroyed. If a ship attempts either maneuver, they may select a different action or different direction for their action

-Official FFG Tournaments must run 75-minute rounds

Fel’s Free-For-All Invitiational this Weekend – Saturday 8/1 at Rodman Comics-

Hello X-wing Players!
We’re running a special tournament this Saturday August 1st starting at 1p at Rodman Comics in Ankeny, Iowa. The Fel’s Free-For-All invitational will be run as follows:
-Each player will bring a single ship worth no more than 35 points (including upgrades).
-Each table will play four 30 minute rounds with four players participating at each table.
-Players will then attempt to destroy every other ship on the field. Each kill made by a ship adds 1 point to that player’s MOV. Player’s only gain points if their shot kill’s an enemy ship, so an opponent is free to swoop in and deal that last point of damage for a full point 🙂
-Any player that intentionally fly’s off the map will forfeit all points earned for the round. Any player that forces an enemy ship off the map due to blocking/ion’s/stress will receive 1 point to their MOV, with no penalty to the affect player
-After four rounds, the four players with the highest MOV with then compete against each other until only one player’s ship remains. That player is then crowned winner and will have first choice of prize support, like the Golden Interceptor pictured below:
