League Announcements – Week of 9/28

Good afternoon X-wing players!

It’s hard to believe that September is already drawing to a close but don’t worry, Monday night X-wing is here to soothe your worries. We’ll be meeting up around 6pm at the Des Moines Mayhem to satisfy all of your X-wing cravings and get in a few practice rounds before we hit the H.O.T.H. Charity Tournament on 10/24.

You can check out the announcement on the Fantasy Flight Forums page for the registration link and event details.

As far as carpooling, I know some of the Ames people were talking about putting together a carpool – Caleb and Kristina had mentioned taking people from there. Caleb Bailey has volunteered his vehicle for the Des Moines group as well and can easily hold three passengers plus gear.

If anyone else would be willing to lend their car to the cause, sound off down below! We’d be looking to leave fairly early on Saturday (7:30-8am) so we can make sure to get there in plenty of time for registration.

Otherwise, good luck and fly casual!

League Announcements – Week of 9/21

Good morning X-wing players!

Monday is here and you know what that means – another week of X-wing madness! As always, we have our Monday nights in Des Moines starting at 6pm. Come on down and face the fury of our weirdly diverse local meta 🙂

We also have games taking place at Rodman’s on Saturdays and the Ames Mayhem on Sundays so if you can’t make Monday, Saturday and Sunday both have you covered. In fact, this last Saturday the Rodman crew ran an Epic game with some excellent Rebel vs Empire matchups hitting the table.

On a separate note, we’re about a month out from the HOTH Charity Tournament and will be talking carpools both on game nights and on the Facebook page. It’s a great tournament for a great cause so don’t let the trip to Coraville, IA be the only reason you can’t make it.

Stay tuned for updates on that tournament and travel 🙂 Otherwise, as always, good luck and fly casual!

League Announcements – Week of 9/14

Good afternoon X-wing players!

Though ISU was brought low by the dastardly Hawkeyes, tonight is the night to either revel in your victory (boo) or take a stand for what’s right (hooray!). That’s right, it’s another X-wing League night at the Des Moines Mayhem.

Starting at 6pm, we’ll have courageous rebels, unstoppable imperials, and sly scum all fighting for space at our weekly gathering. Stop on down and see what’s being flown – now that we have all the new sets out, we can start to see what works, what doesn’t, and how Doug Kinney will once again defy the meta and do something cool/weird.

On a separate note, there’s been a semi-regular gathering of players up at the Ames Mayhem for games on Sundays. I’ve added them to the League Events page so if you’re in the area and looking for a game in Ames, it’s the place to be.

Otherwise, as always good luck and fly casual!

A New Core Set!!!

In honor of the new movie coming out this Fall, Fantasy Flight Games has released a brand spanking new core set for X-wing, with Tie Fighters and X-wings from the new movie (the Tie/fo and T-70 respectively):

Now, there were rumors and pictures circulating for several weeks but this is the first official announcement about the products we’ve seen so far. Here’s another look down below:

If nothing else, the ships look pretty and they’ve definitely been making some modifications to fix X-wings and provide some additional options for Ties. The X-wing now has an extra shield, a native boost, and a brand new slot called “Tech”. Here’s a look at the generics:

Based on their site, there’s much more to come. I won’t be getting a chance to do an un-boxing until later in the weekend but we’ve got a bunch of interesting stuff not only for veterans but for new players looking to get into the game. It’s a nice move by FFG and is an opportunity to give us a revised damage deck.

More to come soon, so please check back here or on our Facebook page for more updates!
